The (Not So) Secret Tips for the Right Sleepwear!

The feeling of being a "mommy" is one of the greatest feelings in the world. There are so many new and exciting things you will experience with your little one. However, even with the most beautiful rainbow comes a little rain, and there are sure to be a plethora of anxieties plaguing our new moms. So here at Bunne & Mamalade, we can help you ease some of those worries! After all, the key to a Happy Mommy is a Prepared Mommy. Today, we’ll be talking about maternity and breastfeeding pajamas. After all, if you’re comfortable, your baby’s comfortable too (and if you can squeeze in a couple more hours off sleep then all the better, right?).

Nursing nightwear by quarter of pregnancy

There are 4 main tips for choosing the right sleepwear. They can be divided into 4 parts, namely the first 3 months of pregnancy, the 3 months during pregnancy, the 3 months before birth and then the months after the birth.

Pajamas for Q1 (the first 3 months of pregnancy)

During the first trimester (or the first 3 months of pregnancy), it is still a light pregnancy and the body will not expand or change much, so new mothers can still wear the same pajamas. Just don't wear clothes that are too tight because it may be harmful to the baby.

Pajamas for Q2 (3 months during pregnancy)

For new mothers during the second trimester (or the 3 months during pregnancy), you have to consider your lower body (from the belly down), which will begin to expand more and more. So if possible, you should be wearing a flowing skirt that doesn’t constrict the belly. If new mothers are more comfortable in pants or prefer the feeling of pants more, they should choose ones with an elastic support for the stomach. It should also be low-waisted and the strap must be directly under the stomach only. Do not wear pants that are tight on the stomach!

Pajamas for Q3 (3 months before birth)

The last three months have arrived! Don’t be alarmed; take a deep breath and we’ll help you get through this exciting time! During this period, you will feel especially uncomfortable as your belly will be at its largest. The hips, arms and legs will have also expanded; therefore, your maternity sleepwear selection should emphasize comfort rather than beauty or preference. We highly recommend wearing maternity clothes straight away — or if you wish it can even be your partner’s over-sized shirt if that’s what comforts you. This will guarantee a more comfortable sleep, which is a necessity in these last few months.

Pajamas for Q4 (After birth...and beyond)

The baby is finally here! After nine months of joy and excitement, trials and tribulations, your little one has finally arrived. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can return to wearing your regular old pajamas just yet. During this post-pregnancy period, choosing a suitable pair of pajamas is still very important. You need ones that will help take care of the baby during breastfeeding. This is why new mothers should be wearing pajamas that have a hook to release the breasts, so that it will be more comfortable during feeding time. There currently are a lot of styles of pajamas for pregnant women that new mothers can easily find and buy.

Considering all of the above, we hope you found our (not so) secret tips helpful for living more comfortable while pregnant and after birth, and we sincerely hope we have alleviated some concerns you had about what’s best to wear at night. Also, an important note to know is that the selection of fabrics for pajamas for breastfeeding pajamas should not be rough on the skin as it can make you really uncomfortable. So in order to round out this post, we have a little tip prepared for new mothers on how to choose the right fabric.

How to choose the right fabric

In choosing maternity and breastfeeding sleepwear, here are just a few simple principles to live by: choose a fabric that has good ventilation. For instance, a natural cotton fabric has a soft texture and it doesn’t irritate the skin. Synthetic or mixed fabric should be highly avoided because it can make you feel hot and uncomfortable throughout the night.

Lastly, we would like to wish all of our new moms good health, a lifetime of happiness with your little ones and a stress-free pregnancy. We hope you will journey safely through this beautiful nine month road towards finally meeting your adorable baby(ies).
