For all new mothers, the issue of dressing is considered another matter that many people are wor-ried because with our changing bodies, we will also have to change the way we dress to fit with our new lifestyle.

But don't worry, Bunne & Mamalade have tips for choosing clothes for prenatal and postnatal mothers!

Choosing clothes for prenatal mothers:

  • Work Clothes

For all of you strong working women out there, we understand that dressing for success is very much a necessity in your life. But for now, you need to forget about your old clothes and choose a set that provides agility in movement. It needs to be an outfit that is extendable and flexible like a maternity dress that can accommodate your growing belly, but of course, it should also be suitable for the workplace. A stylish coat or a blazer can make any outfit a touch more formal. Additionally, you can choose to buy pants, such as jeans or leggings for pregnant women that is specially designed for flexibility. Pair it with a flowing blouse and you’re set to conquer any office you’re in!

  • Casual Wear

For everyday wear, it is recommended to choose clothes that are easily worn and comfortable. You may choose a loose dress like an A-lined dress that is suitable for pregnant mothers. You should also remember to look for comfortable fabrics, such as polyamide, which is lightweight, soft to the touch, flexible and has good ventilation. It can help you feel more comfortable. If you wear something tight around the chest, it can make your body look more shapely and feminine.

  • Sleepwear

Due to your changing body and enlarged belly, it may be an obstacle to find the perfect pair of pajamas when resting at night — not to mention finding something that won’t affect the little one in your womb. This is why many mothers choose to wear pajamas that are specially designed for pregnant women. These types of clothing have a soft, smooth texture, and is comfortable to wear during pregnancy. An added benefit: they can still be opened for breastfeeding, so they can be worn before and after birth!

  • Lingerie

Although they are smallest item of clothing in your wardrobe, every woman knows it is no less important than any other type of clothing. If you ask us, lingerie is the most important part of a woman’s wardrobe, whether they’re pregnant or not. So new mothers, choose the right lingerie! They need to be adjustable and there should be no seams around the nipples. This is because your nipples can be extremely sensitive to the touch and can be irritated more easily than usual. New mothers should also consider breastfeeding bras that can be worn before and after birth. The price may seem a little steep at first, but it is certainly worth the investment! As for underwear, the most important thing to note is choosing good quality fabric, such as any that are extra stretchy, light, comfortable, and flexible. It should support the extended stomach during pregnancy and be well ventilated.

Choosing clothes for mothers after giving birth

  • Work Clothes

For many postpartum mothers, you may be confused on as to whether or not you can go back to wearing your normal pre-pregnancy clothes or not, but we highly recommend you wait a little bit longer and look for clothes that are comfortable to wear. Most importantly, they should also be convenient for breastfeeding and breast pumping. By choosing a fabric that is quite light and comfortable, it can actually help to hide your postpartum shape. It can take some time for our bodies to return to the way they were pre-pregnancy, so we suggest avoiding anything too tight. Your post-pregnancy body is beautiful so we’re here to help you find clothes to boost your confidence!

  • Casual Wear

Unfortunately, new mommies, your pregnancy belly will not reduce immediately after birth, so you may want to choose a dress that is loose and has openings for breastfeeding. Again, it should be light-weight, flexible, and breathable with no special fasteners. It should make it easy for you to sit and walk around. When wearing, it should not cause irritation towards your little one because you must take into consideration that the fabric will come into contact with your baby's skin.

  • Sleepwear

The design for comfortable pajamas for pregnant women have a soft, smooth, light and comfortable texture. It must be easily open for breastfeeding without having to remove the bra. It should have good ventilation so it will support a deep sleep all night. With a new baby, sleep is a luxury you can’t always afford, but when you do get a quiet night, some comfortable and breathable sleepwear can give you a couple more hours of well-deserved sleep!

  • Lingerie

The important thing for mothers after birth is choosing the right breastfeeding bra in order to easily breastfeed without having to remove it. It is important to choose bras with breast pads to help absorb the milk when it flows so it doesn’t ruin your clothes. For underwear, it is also important to choose ones that are not too tight, especially for mothers who just gave birth. It is advisable to use high-waist or mid-waist briefs to prevent compression of the incision. It can also help keep the sagging in after giving birth.

For mothers who have no idea on how to choose clothes for prenatal and postnatal wear, we hope that our guidelines have been a help towards you and your journey. The most important thing, however, is to not give up on yourself and to continue to enjoy dressing up during this special time! Just add maternal wear and mix and match outfits from your normal look. No matter what you choose to wear, remember that you have the added bonus of that beautiful pregnancy glow.
